Student Achievements

Public Speaking Competition

Congratulations go to Eve in Year 11 for her successful speech in the English Speaking Union’s public speaking competition.  Eve competed in the first round against Year 11 and 12 students from across Brisbane. Competitors presented a speech responding to Thomas Jefferson’s famous words: 'In matters of style, swim with the current. In matters of principle, stand like a rock.' Adjudicators commented on the strength of the speeches presented in this section.  The field was so strong, that they awarded two students to enter in the finals, instead of the usual one.

The speakers showed many strengths both in writing and presenting – using humour, anecdote, facts, and strong performances. Eve’s speech was thought provoking and her delivery – all memorised – was seamless. The adjudicator appreciated the insightful and humorous analogy Eve provided about life as a swimming race – and everyone making a choice on their swimming style – from freestyle to dog paddle.

Congratulations Eve! The finals round will be held in August.

Rugby 7s National Championships

Congratulations to Madison in Year 12 on gaining selection in the School Sport Australia U18 Girls Rugby 7s team. Madison represented Queensland at the Inaugural School Rugby 7s National Championships over the school holidays. She utilised her skill and athleticism to play a key role for her team, including kicking the winning conversion in the national final.

While the team will not tour, Madison has been invited to a national training camp in Northern NSW in September as a member of the Australian team.

This is a fantastic achievement, and we wish Madison all the best in her future sporting endeavours.
